Adamus Resources Limited has been hit with a major setback after the government revoked its mining leases across the Akango, Salman, and Nkroful concessions, citing a pattern of illegal activities and serious regulatory violations.

The decision, announced by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources on April 26, follows damning findings from the Minerals Commission, which uncovered widespread non-compliance with Ghana’s mining laws. Investigations revealed that the company allegedly engaged in unauthorized mining operations, subcontracted work without required ministerial approval, and operated without valid permits or approved mining plans.
Authorities also found that Adamus Resources Limited failed to secure mandatory environmental approvals, raising concerns about its disregard for environmental safeguards. Even more troubling were reports of foreign nationals participating in illegal mining activities on the company’s concessions, in breach of national regulations.
The environmental impact has been described as severe, with operations extending beyond approved boundaries, causing land degradation and posing threats to water bodies, ecosystems, and nearby communities. Officials say these actions reflect a “deliberate pattern of violations” rather than isolated incidents.
The Minister acted on recommendations under Section 100(2) of the Minerals and Mining Act, emphasizing that the revocation was necessary to protect the public interest and prevent further abuse of mineral rights. Authorities have also warned that criminal prosecution against the company’s leadership remains a possibility.
While the government has pledged to support affected workers, the case adds to growing concerns over accountability in Ghana’s mining sector, as officials intensify efforts to crack down on illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
The scandal places Adamus Resources Limited under intense scrutiny, raising broader questions about regulatory enforcement and corporate responsibility in the country’s natural resource industry.
