The Lordina Foundation has renovated and equipped the Anyima Health Centre in the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region to enhance maternal and child healthcare delivery in the area.
The project was commissioned and officially handed over to the community by Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, Founder and President of the Foundation.
With the completion of the project, the Foundation has now constructed or renovated six health facilities across the country.
The other facilities include four new maternity and children’s wards located at Bole in the Savannah Region, Nkoranza South and Bodom in the Nkoranza North Municipality in the Bono East Region, and Asukawkaw in the Oti Region.
The Foundation also previously renovated and expanded the Adabraka Health Centre at Hohoe Zongo in the Volta Region, equipping it with essential medical equipment to improve service delivery.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mrs Mahama expressed appreciation to Nana Saa Gyamfuaa II, Queenmother of Anyima, for her advocacy and commitment which helped make the renovation possible.
She noted that the project held personal significance for her, explaining that Jema-Ampoma, a nearby community, is the hometown of her late mother, Abena Gyamfua.
Mrs Mahama emphasised that improving access to quality healthcare, particularly maternal and child health services, remains a priority for the Foundation.
According to her, Ghana’s maternal mortality rate remains high, with nearly 300 deaths per 100,000 live births, while infant mortality stands at about 32 deaths per 1,000 live births.
She stressed that many of these deaths were preventable and often occurred because expectant mothers had to travel long distances to access healthcare or because facilities lacked adequate equipment.
The renovated Anyima Health Centre is expected to serve more than 3,000 residents in Anyima and neighbouring communities including Amoma, Apesika and Jema.
The facility now includes an Out-Patient Department, consulting and examination rooms, delivery room, labour ward, children’s ward, and separate male and female wards.
Additional units include an adolescent centre, laboratory, dispensary, emergency room and offices for nurses and midwives.
The centre has also been equipped with modern medical equipment such as hospital beds and mattresses, an electric obstetric bed, infant incubator, phototherapy unit, ultrasound system, digital electrocardiogram machine, oxygen equipment and neonatal care devices.
Mrs Mahama urged health workers posted to the centre to treat patients with dignity and compassion while encouraging residents to take good care of the facility.
She also appealed to chiefs and community leaders to safeguard the health centre to ensure it continued to serve the community for years to come.
