The Africa Editors Congress 2026 has officially concluded today in Nairobi, marking two days of high-level discussions focused on the future of journalism across the continent.

Among the distinguished participants was David Sitsopé Tamakloe, President of the Private Newspapers and Online Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), who represented Ghana at the prestigious gathering, joining prominent editors and media executives from Ghana and across Africa.
The Congress, held from February 23–24, 2026, was convened by the The Africa Editors Forum (TAEF) and hosted by the Eastern Africa Editors Society (EAES). The event received sponsorship support from Stanbic Bank.
Designed as a closed-door working forum rather than a ceremonial talk shop, the Africa Editors Congress brought together leading editors, media executives, policymakers, and global partners to engage in frank and evidence-led dialogue. Discussions centered on the rapidly evolving political, economic, and technological landscape shaping journalism in Africa.
Key sessions explored strategies for driving a unified continental narrative, embracing the transition from print journalism to digital media, and identifying sustainable funding opportunities for independent media organizations. Participants examined practical solutions to strengthen newsroom leadership, safeguard editorial independence, and enhance public trust in the media.
Speaking after the conclusion of the Congress, Mr. Tamakloe described the two-day session as “highly informative and insightful,” emphasizing the importance of collaboration among African media leaders in navigating industry transformation. He noted that the forum provided a valuable opportunity for decision-makers to align on practical commitments aimed at strengthening Africa’s media ecosystem and amplifying the continent’s voice globally.
The 2026 Congress reaffirmed its Pan-African and outcomes-focused mandate, fostering practical partnerships and shared strategies to ensure resilient, innovative, and independent journalism across Africa.
With the successful conclusion of this year’s edition in Nairobi, media leaders return to their respective countries equipped with renewed commitments to drive reform, innovation, and sustainability within their newsrooms and across the broader African media landscape.
