At a Thanksgiving Service held after his election as the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer for 2028, former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia described the party’s internal contest as peaceful and incident free.

“We have been through a gruelling election cycle,” he said.
“Elections can leave scars that may not show on the surface but can sometimes cut deep.”
Rather than dwell on the contest itself, he urged members to repair relationships. Speaking directly to party faithful, he said,
“From the bottom of my heart, forgive each other for some of the unpalatable things we may have said against one another during this election cycle.”
“When we are falsely accused, our response should reflect patience, truth, love and trust in God rather than retaliation,” he said.
Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia noted that some members have already taken steps to reconnect.
“Though I know the exercise of healing is not completed yet, I believe we have started well,” he added, commending what he described as genuine efforts to rebuild unity within the party.
