The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has selectedi former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, to replace Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga on the committee investigating allegations of vote buying during the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary.

The change follows Mr Ayariga’s decision to step down from the committee after the NDC Majority Caucus in Parliament publicly called for the cancellation of the primary and the disqualification of any candidates found to have engaged in unethical practices.
In a Facebook post, the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, explained that Mr Ayariga’s continued membership of the committee had become untenable due to the position taken by the Majority Caucus.
“The party remains committed to upholding the highest integrity in its internal electoral process,” he added.
The NDC’s Ayawaso East parliamentary primary, held on February 7, 2026, has been rocked by allegations that some delegates were induced with items including television sets and boiled eggs, fuelling claims of widespread vote buying, with the party’s parliamentary candidate, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, at the centre of the controversy.
In response, the party constituted a three-member committee chaired by former Information Minister Kofi Totobi Quakyi, with Emefa Fugah and initially Mahama Ayariga as members, to investigate the matter and make recommendations.
The committee is expected to submit its report by February 10, 2026, and is also tasked with proposing reforms to decisively curb inducement and vote buying in the party’s internal elections.
In a latest development, Baba Jamal has vehemently rejected the vote buying allegations.
