The First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, delivered a heartfelt call for unity, prayer, and decisive action to safeguard children worldwide during the 7th Annual Prayer Service for Children held at the Tillman Chapel, Church Center for the United Nations.
Representing Ghana, her family, and the Lordina Foundation, Mrs. Mahama praised the event—organized by World Vision International and partners—as a “powerful gathering” dedicated to the world’s most vulnerable. She welcomed this year’s theme, “A Moment of Hope,” calling it timely as global leaders meet for the 80th United Nations General Assembly amidst shifting global challenges.
Quoting her husband, President John Dramani Mahama, the First Lady emphasized that “the challenges facing our children today are immense, but they can be tackled through decisive leadership.” She highlighted the devastating impact of conflicts and humanitarian crises, particularly in Africa, where countless children are forced into armed conflicts, stripped of their childhood, and exposed to trauma.
“When nations fail to focus on policies that safeguard the home, strengthen communities, and nurture the youth, it is our children who suffer the most,” she cautioned, noting that young lives are too often lost to war, displacement, and poverty.
Mrs. Mahama underscored the power of prayer and collective action, urging global leaders to seek wisdom in shaping a safer, more hopeful world for children. Citing Proverbs 9:10, she reminded the audience that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
In her prayer, she lifted up needy and orphaned children in Ghana and beyond, asking for God’s protection, provision, and hope for a brighter future. She also expressed gratitude for those dedicating their time and resources to care for vulnerable children.
“As parents, prayer strengthens us to continue working hard for their well-being,” she said, recalling Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:14: “Let the little children come to me… for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Closing her remarks, Mrs. Mahama urged the global community to renew its commitment to protecting children, while expressing faith that Ghana’s leadership would continue to pursue policies that open opportunities and ensure a brighter tomorrow for the nation’s youth.
“Thank you, and may God bless and protect our children as we lift them up in prayer, now and always,” she concluded.
