In a display of passion, strategy, and youthful energy, Osman Ayariga — Deputy National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA) — has emerged as a central figure in the party’s vigorous campaign for victory in the high-stakes parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North.
Dubbed the “Green Army Commander” by supporters, Ayariga has galvanized hundreds of NDC youth activists under the party’s Green Army banner, leading an aggressive grassroots mobilization campaign for NDC parliamentary candidate Ewurabena Aubynn. His visible leadership and tireless presence on the ground have made him a rallying figure in the constituency.
“Ablekuma North will turn green today!” Ayariga boldly declared on the eve of the rerun. “The youth are awake, they are determined, and they are ready to deliver this seat to the NDC.”
Today, Friday, July 11, eligible voters across 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North returned to the polls in a rerun aimed at settling a months-long electoral dispute. The rerun follows contested results from the December 2024 general elections, which left the constituency without a Member of Parliament for over half a year.
While the New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially boycotted the rerun, their candidate Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie defied the party’s directive and is contesting independently. This move has further charged the political atmosphere in the constituency, but Ayariga has urged calm and vigilance.
Speaking to the media earlier today, Ayariga cautioned the NPP against any attempts to foment chaos or disrupt the voting process.
“The people of Ablekuma North deserve peace and fairness. Any attempts by individuals or groups to derail this process will be fiercely resisted by the people, especially the youth who have taken full ownership of this election,” he stated.
Since the campaign began, Ayariga has been at the center of on-the-ground operations — from house-to-house visits to street rallies — and today he is actively supervising youth-led monitoring teams deployed across all polling centers to ensure transparency and accountability.
Sources within the NDC say Ayariga’s leadership has injected renewed energy and structure into the party’s youth wing, turning the Green Army into a formidable political force.
Party stakeholders, including campaign director Joshua Alabi, have commended the youth mobilization efforts in Ablekuma North, describing the rerun as a “litmus test” for the party’s organizational strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.
