The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has issued a stern warning to members of the newly inaugurated GoldBod Taskforce, cautioning them against any form of misconduct or abuse of power.
Addressing the team during their official inauguration ceremony, Mr. Gyamfi made it clear that unprofessional behaviour would not be tolerated, stating emphatically that any member who brings the taskforce, the government, or the nation into disrepute would be dealt with ruthlessly.
“With the support of the President, we’ve provided the necessary orientation, training, logistics, and resources for the taskforce to operate effectively and fearlessly,” he noted. “We expect nothing but professionalism and patriotism from them.”
Mr. Gyamfi pledged full backing for taskforce members who act in good faith but stressed that the highest ethical standards and accountability would be strictly enforced.
“I have firm instructions to hold you to the highest standards. We will protect those of you committed to your duties, but we will not hesitate to act decisively against those who misuse their authority,” he warned.
The GoldBod CEO also appealed to stakeholders within the gold trading industry to operate within the law by obtaining valid licences before engaging in any gold-related transactions.
“We must all make a commitment to comply with the law. That means trading gold legally — by ensuring you have a valid licence from the Gold Board,” he stated.
Mr. Gyamfi further revealed the introduction of a new digital licensing system aimed at improving transparency and eliminating bribery, extortion, and bureaucratic delays in the application process.
“We’ve introduced a seamless, digital licensing system. As I speak, we’ve granted over 300 licences with minimal human involvement. The process is online, straightforward, and corruption-free. We have not taken a dime from any applicant,” he disclosed.
He encouraged all stakeholders to embrace the new system and support the national effort to sanitise the gold trading industry.
“The success of this taskforce depends on a collective effort. Let us all support this initiative to ensure Ghana’s gold industry is ethical, transparent, and globally respected,” Mr. Gyamfi concluded.
