Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has
blamed former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for what he describes as increasing
disrespect toward Ghana by some gay men.
According to him, the former president’s refusal to assent to the controversial Family Values Bill-
widely referred to as the anti-gay bill-has emboldened same-sex couples to desecrate Ghana’s
national symbols without fear.
His comments come after viral images surfaced on social media on Wednesday, June 25, showing
two gay couples, reportedly South African nationals, posing for photos at national monuments,
including the Black Star Square.
The images sparked criticism, with some social media users-particularly members of the
opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)-accusing Sam George of going quiet on his strong anti-
LGBTQ+ advocacy since assuming his ministerial role.
