The ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) latest attempt to discredit the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, appears to have backfired, with many political observers describing the move as a failed propaganda stunt.
At a press conference held earlier this week, the NPP accused Sammy Gyamfi of gifting US dollars to controversial evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa, in what they claimed was a morally questionable act inconsistent with the values of public leadership.
However, the accusations failed to gain traction among the general public, with many questioning the relevance, timing, and credibility of the allegations. Social media users and political analysts alike have criticized the NPP for what they described as a diversionary tactic aimed at shifting focus from their corruption scandals.
“The NPP’s obsession with attacking Sammy Gyamfi is becoming desperate,” said political commentator Kofi Asante on a local morning show. “Instead of addressing the substantive concerns of Ghanaians, they are chasing shadows.”
Several leading NDC members have come to his defense, stating that the NPP’s press conference lacked substance and failed to present any compelling evidence of wrongdoing.
“This was a clear attempt to smear his character without facts,” said a top NDC official.
Observers believe the move may have inadvertently strengthened Gyamfi’s image as a victim of political witch-hunting, rather than tarnished it.
For now, it appears the NPP’s agenda against Sammy Gyamfi has not only failed but may have bolstered his standing among the youth .
