President John Dramani Mahama has extended warm wishes to Ghanaian workers as the country marks this year’s May Day celebrations. In a message posted on his official Facebook page, Mr. Mahama praised the tireless efforts and dedication of Ghana’s workforce, acknowledging their vital role in driving national progress.
“Today is a special day for our gallant workers,” he wrote. “On behalf of the people of Ghana, I celebrate your tireless efforts, dedication, and contributions to our progress as a country and people.”
Reflecting on the 2025 May Day theme, “Striving for peace and stability to drive industrialisation, trade, and decent work for social justice,” the former President stressed the importance of implementing policies that ensure sustainable development and decent wages for all Ghanaians.
Mahama, who is seeking a return to the presidency, reiterated his government’s focus on resetting Ghana’s economy through a proactive policy agenda that supports industrialisation, trade, and job creation. He noted that over the past four months, his administration has been rolling out strategies to stabilise the economy, promote value addition to raw materials, and create employment opportunities in manufacturing and light industries.
Touching on efforts to build human capital, he highlighted recent youth-focused initiatives such as the National Apprenticeship Programme, the Adwumawura initiative, and the One Million Coders programme, all aimed at empowering young people with employable skills.
“In furtherance of my 120-day social contract with the good people of Ghana, we remain dedicated to ensuring decent work for all Ghanaians,” Mahama emphasized. “This means fair wages, safe working conditions, opportunities for training and skills development, and the protection of workers’ rights.”
He also underscored the government’s commitment to improving labour laws, enforcing workplace safety standards, and enhancing dialogue between employers and employees.
While acknowledging ongoing challenges such as inflation, unemployment, and infrastructural gaps, Mr. Mahama expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to overcome them. He pledged continued investment in education, skills training, and infrastructure to build a resilient economy.
“Let us all, employers and employees, commit to fostering a spirit of collaboration, understanding, and mutual respect,” he urged. “Let us work together to create a more prosperous and equitable Ghana, where every citizen can contribute their talents and skills to national development.”
He ended his message with a hopeful call to action: “Happy Workers’ Day! #ResettingGhana #LetsBuildGhanaTogether”
