The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuru Sharubutu, has officially declared Monday, March 31, 2025, as Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The declaration follows the non-sighting of the crescent moon on Saturday, March 29, which traditionally signals the conclusion of Ramadan and the commencement of Islamic festivities. In a press conference on Sunday, the Office of the National Chief Imam confirmed that, despite diligent efforts, the new moon was not visible. As a result, in accordance with Islamic tradition, the fasting period will be completed in full, with Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations taking place the following day.
This announcement provides clarity for the Muslim community in Ghana, allowing them to finalize preparations for the highly significant religious holiday. Eid-ul-Fitr is a time of joyous celebration, marked by communal prayers, feasting, and acts of goodwill towards family, friends, and the less privileged.
Muslims across the country are expected to gather in mosques and designated Eid prayer grounds on Monday morning for special congregational prayers. The National Chief Imam extended his warmest Eid greetings to all Muslims in Ghana and beyond, urging them to celebrate in peace and unity while upholding the values of compassion and generosity that define the Islamic faith.
Eid Mubarak to all!
