A popular Ghanaian male politician is under close watch for the role he is suspected to have played in the killing of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, the undercover investigative journalist who was shot dead near his family home in Accra on January 16, 2019 at age 31.
It is confirmed that a former working colleague of the murdered journalist has been picked up by the Ghana Police Service on suspicions that he had intentionally given out pictures of the undercover journalist to the said popular politician and that action aided in blowing up the deceased’s cover for the persons who were tasked to kill.
The suspect is said to have been on the raider of the police for years but disguised himself and left the country immediately after police picked up information about his suspected involvement in the case.
He however sneaked into Ghana last week not aware he was being trailed. He was arrested at a hair saloon along the outskirts of Accra but has been granted bail under circumstances some have described as unusual.
His arrest had to do with the role he played with the said politician and discussions he had with the deceased days before he was killed.
Ahmed Suale was shot multiple times at close range in the neck and then in the chest while in his car near his family home at Madina in the afternoon of January 16, 2019
Eyewitnesses say Ahmed Suale was driving and had slowed down to negotiate a curve when his killers fired directly into his car. The bullet hit Ahmed in the neck when the car was still in motion, forcing it to crash into a nearby store. The killers then followed up to where the car had crashed, crossed over to the driver’s side and fired some more bullets directly into his chest at close range.
Nothing was stolen from Ahmed’s car after he was shot dead. The killers simply walked back to where they had parked their motor bikes and sped off.
Six years after that incident, the shooters have not been arrested although investigations have continued in full swing.
Myjoyonline.com reports that the arrested suspect alleged to have sold out Ahmed’s photographs to the said popular politician. disguised himself and left the country immediately after police picked up information about his suspected involvement in the case.
The site reports further that the FBI in the United States, as part of the investigations had extracted useful information from the phone of the suspect.
The information is said to include phone calls between the suspect and Ahmed Suale days before he was killed.
“The phones of the late Ahmed Suale were sent to the USA as part of police investigations. A source close to the police Criminal Investigations Department has told Myjoyonline.com that the suspect used to visit the deceased, a close friend at his Madina-base residence”, the news site noted.
It stated that “The arrest of the suspect has been met with some ill feelings as a top brass police officer is pushing to interfere with the investigations, pushing for the suspect to be granted police enquiry bail, instead of him being put before the court. The situation is said to be creating an uneasy calm at the police headquarters.”
