Parliament has restructured its committees, appointing Hon. Mrs. Queenstar Pokua Sawyerr, the first female fourth-term MP from the Central Region and the dynamic Member of Parliament for Agona East, as the new Chairperson of the Local Government Committee.
This position carries significant responsibility in overseeing local governance, decentralization, culture, and religious affairs.
A towering figure in rural development and local governance, “The People’s MP” is expected to bring her vast experience and expertise to government decision-making in her new role.
As part of the reshuffle, Hon. Sammy Atta Mills has been appointed Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), a committee where he previously served as Vice Chairman in the last Parliament. The PAC plays a crucial role in reviewing government expenditures and ensuring accountability in public fund management.
These leadership changes, along with other committee reassignments, aim to strengthen parliamentary oversight and reinforce governance, as the legislature continues to uphold transparency and efficiency in public administration.
