More than 80 Ghanaian travelers have been left stranded in Abidjan for over three days after their Qatar Airways flight was unexpectedly grounded.
The group, led by Mercy Akaliga-Wemah, CEO of Travel Planners and a tourism expert, was en route to Malaysia when the disruption occurred.
According to Akaliga-Wemah, the travelers had booked their journey from Ghana to Abidjan, then Abidjan to Qatar, and finally to Malaysia. However, after landing in Abidjan, they were kept on the tarmac for over three hours with no proper communication. Eventually, they were instructed to disembark, with airline officials informing them that the flight could not proceed.
The stranded passengers were provided accommodation at a hotel but have remained there for more than three days without clear updates from the airline. Frustrated by the lack of communication and resolution, Akaliga-Wemah took to social media, calling on Qatar Airways via Twitter to address the situation before the affected passengers take further action.
Speaking to journalist and blogger Andre Mustapha Nii OKAI Inusah also known as Attractive Mustapha, she expressed her disappointment, stating, “As a regular traveler, this is the first time I have experienced such a situation.”
The incident has raised concerns about airline communication and passenger treatment, with many calling for Qatar Airways to intervene swiftly and ensure a resolution for the stranded travelers.
