Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has brushed off concerns raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who suggested that Ayariga’s approach to parliamentary debates could hinder government business.
Speaking during an interview with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, on Monday, January 27, Ayariga described Afenyo-Markin’s remarks as overly dramatic, reiterating his commitment to ensuring government business runs smoothly and efficiently.
“That is Afenyo-Markin; he likes drama. Sometimes he dramatises things a bit more than people can tolerate, but it’s just him, and that’s how he functions,” Ayariga said.
He emphasized that his focus as Majority Leader is on results rather than theatrics, particularly in the approval and placement of the president’s appointees.
“I receive all sorts of text messages and see all sorts of comments on social media: ‘Ah, why did you tolerate the man?’ I just smile and say, the question you should ask yourself is, how many ministers were approved today? My target is to assist the president in approving all his ministers,” Ayariga explained.
He further stated that the efficiency of his leadership should be measured by the outcomes, highlighting the progress made in processing and approving the president’s nominees.
“When you get your approvals, you have won the argument. You win by the results and not by dramas. So let’s focus on getting government business done. To tell you the truth, these are some of the fastest rates of ministerial approvals we have ever had. Go and check the record,” Ayariga added.
Ayariga reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring the president’s appointees are approved promptly and effectively placed in their respective ministries to serve the nation.
