President John Dramani Mahama has inspected the newly rebuilt Ghana High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya, marking the first time a sitting Ghanaian head of state has visited the facility since its initial establishment in 1960.
The property, originally acquired by Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, housed the country’s first chancery in Kenya. It was closed in 1980 due to structural decay but underwent reconstruction starting in 2008.
The new facility, including a remodeled chancery and a newly built residence for the head of mission, was completed in April 2024, with staff moving in shortly thereafter.
During his tour of the facility, President Mahama was guided by Ghana’s Head of Mission to Kenya, H.E. Damptey Bediako Asare, who described the president’s visit as historic.
President Mahama expressed his gratitude for the staff’s dedication and commended their efforts in maintaining Ghana’s diplomatic representation in Kenya.
The president was accompanied by acting government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu and Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) Stanislav Xoese Dogbe.
