Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has heavily criticized the current administration’s economic strategies, likening them to “weapons of mass destruction” for their detrimental effects on the average Ghanaian.
During a campaign stop in the Volta Region with the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Dr. Ofosu Ampofo condemned the government’s handling of the economy, stating that these policies have severely impacted the livelihoods of ordinary citizens. He urged Ghanaians to consider the NDC’s promise to bring more favorable economic policies if elected in the upcoming polls.
“President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia’s policies have become tools of mass destruction,” Ofosu Ampofo remarked. “These policies have wiped out banks, community banks, and microfinance institutions, leaving many small business owners and families without support.”
He further noted that thousands of jobs have been lost, pointing to the closure of businesses like Groupe Nduom, which he claims has thrown 3,000 employees out of work. “This is why we say Bawumia’s economic policies are like weapons of mass destruction. We cannot allow him to continue misleading Ghanaians,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of trust in leadership, Dr. Ofosu Ampofo criticized Dr. Bawumia’s shift in focus from economic management to digital initiatives, asserting that the foundations for digital infrastructure, including fibre optics and the Accra Digital Centre, were laid by former President John Dramani Mahama.
“The upcoming election is about trust and leadership. Dr. Bawumia has distanced himself from the Economic Management Team, yet he dares to criticize President Mahama’s record. What has he truly achieved?”
