The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has selected Philip Kwabena Agyemang, widely recognized as Roman Fada, to lead the party as its presidential candidate in the upcoming December elections.
This decision comes in response to a directive from the Electoral Commission, which instructed the GFP to appoint a new candidate within 10 days following the passing of its founder and former candidate, Akua Donkor.
Roman Fada, a well-known media personality with Accra-based Atinka FM, confirmed his candidacy in a radio interview on Monday, November 4, 2024. He shared that the choice was made after thorough discussions with the party’s leadership, aiming to ensure a seamless transition.
Roman Fada also acknowledged that his previous role as Akua Donkor’s running mate positioned him as a natural successor. He emphasized his commitment to carrying forward Donkor’s vision and legacy for the party.
“It’s true, and we all remember what happened a week ago when Akua Donkor passed away around 10 pm. May her soul rest in peace. I had been her running mate for the December elections, and with her no longer with us, the party’s leadership believed it was right for me to take her place. So yes, I am now the new presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party,” he confirmed on Atinka FM’s morning show.
The GFP plans to formally announce its new presidential candidate on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, according to an earlier statement from the party.
