The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a bold initiative to construct healthcare clinics in all market centers nationwide to enhance access to quality healthcare for market women and traders.
The announcement was made on Monday during the launch of the NDC women’s manifesto in Kumasi.
Professor Grace Ayensu-Danquah, the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Essikadu-Ketan constituency, who spoke on healthcare proposal said “This initiative is set to ensure that those who work tirelessly in our markets have easy access to health services.
In addition to the market clinics, the NDC also plans to construct five specialized children’s hospitals in Accra to alleviate the pressure on existing healthcare facilities.
The hospitals according to the NDC will not only cater to the healthcare needs of children but are also designed to serve as training schools for health professionals.
Another critical aspect of the manifesto involves the provision of free sanitary pads to all basic and secondary school students, addressing both health and educational continuity for young girls.
“Our focus is on creating an environment where no girl needs to miss school due to a lack of menstrual hygiene products,” Professor Ayensu-Danquah explained.
Additionally, NDC announced plans to implement a “Mahama Care” program, which aims to support families in managing the costs associated with chronic diseases.
The NDC also pledged to complete all abandoned community health compounds and build new ones to ensure adequate healthcare provision at the grassroots level.
With these initiatives, the NDC aims to revitalize the healthcare landscape in Ghana and promote health equity for marginalized groups, particularly market vendors and vulnerable children.
