UK-based Ghanaian gospel icon Sonnie
Badu has revealed a painful experience that left him feeling abandoned by his fellow gospel artists.
Speaking candidly on Joy Prime’s late afternoon show, the award-winning musician shared the emotional toll of his health struggles in 2023, a period he described as one of the most challenging moments of his life.
During his interview with host Roselyn Felli, Sonnie Badu recounted how he was left disappointed when not a single gospel musician reached out to him while he was bedridden.
“Not even a single one checked up on me,”
Sonnie Badu said.
“Personally, if I heard that somebody had gone through something or seen it, I would have been calling. I don’t care whether I’m cool with you or not. But not even one person did.”
The “Baba” hitmaker admitted that the lack of concern from his colleagues made him realize how isolated he had become, deepening his emotional distress.
“When I realised that not even a single gospel artist colleague or pastor would check up on me, that’s when I said even if I died, nobody cares; I have to rise up quickly,” he expressed.
Despite the overwhelming silence from the gospel music fraternity, Sonnie Badu was grateful for the few who did reach out, including notable pastors such as Nigerian Pastor Jerry Eze, Prophet Agyemang Prempeh of Ultimate Charismatic Centre, Apostle Amoako Atta of the Lord’s Parliament Chapel International, and Pastor Kingsley, who showed their support through social media.
