National Council backs Afoko’s suspension – Mac Manu

Former national chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party Peter Mac Manu has revealed that all national executives of the party are in support of the decision by the National Executive Committee to suspend their national chairman.

A contentious national executive meeting of the party, a fortnight ago, suspended Mr Paul Afoko for what they described as his inimical actions towards the political fortunes of the party. Afoko is battling his suspension in court and insists he is still the national chairperson of the party.

There were concerns the decision was not entirely supported by the various leadership branches of the elephant family.

However, speaking to Accra-based Joy FM after a national executive meeting Tuesday, the former campaign director of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition said until Afoko appeals the decision, it is deemed to be fully backed by the entire party.

“The decision to suspend Afoko was taken through constitutional structures of the party and members are supposed to abide by it and publicly support it.

“He has some days to go for an appeal then the national council will swing into action but until then, the entire executive body is bound by the constitution to support the decision of NEC.

“Every executive member of the NPP supports the ban. It doesn’t matter that the general secretary was not there,” he said.
