June 4 set aside to mourn Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama

The Denkyira Traditional Council has set Sunday June 4 as a day to mourn the passing of murdered solder, Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama. The day will also be used to pacify the gods of the land for the heinous crime.

At a press conference, s representative of the Council condemned in no uncertain terms the lynching of the army officer on Monday at Denkyira-Obuasi and called on all resident of Denkyira to clad themselves in black attire on the day.

The Traditional leaders will lead a procession the paramount chief of Denkyira to perform the rights.

Captain Adams Mahama, the commander of a military detachment to enforce the ban on illegal mining at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region, was attacked, stoned and burnt to death by some residents, on suspicion he was an armed robber while jogging with a gun on him.

Photos and videos of his killing have gone viral on social media sparking anger all across the country.

The military on Tuesday descended on the town in a swoop to apprehend his killers, questioning over one hundred residents. Five have been handed over to the Central Regional Police Command and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.

The Denkyira Traditional Council at the press conference pledge support to efforts by the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice. The Chiefs urged the government to inform them of further developments on the issue.
