We disagree with Ken Agyapong, Chairman Wontumi over Delta Force – NPP

Acting National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has expressed the party’s disagreement with statements made by the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong and Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi in support of the conduct of the Delta Force.

The Delta Force, a pro-NPP vigilante group, a few weeks ago, attacked the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Agyei and booted him out of his office because they did not know him.

Their attack which received a lot of condemnation was however supported by the two leading members of the NPP with the Assin Central MP warning against their prosecution after 13 members of the group were arrested.

As if that was not enough, the Delta Force on Thursday stormed the Kumasi Circuit Court where the 13 members were facing prosecution for the attack on the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, vandalising court properties and verbally assaulting the presiding judge, Mary Nsenkyire before freeing their colleagues.

The actions of the vigilante group have received massive condemnation from the general public with many criticising Mr Agyapong for emboldening the groups with his show of support.

Speaking on the matter on Friday, the Acting National Chairman of the NPP stated that Mr Agyapong and Chairman Wontumi made the support statements in their personal capacities and were in no way speaking the mind of the party on the matter.

“We disagree with the views expressed by Chairman Wontumi and Ken Agyapong on the Delta Forces saga”, he declared in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Friday.

Condemning the actions of the Delta Force, he stated that the group did not act in the name of the NPP but was quick to add though “what the Delta Forces did is totally wrong and pitiful but we cannot disown them. They are part of us”.

Meanwhile, Mr Agyapong has withdrawn his support for the Delta Force after the court attack saying “what they have done is disgraceful and I condemn them outrightly”.
