Akufo-Addo charges the church to get involved in developmental agenda

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has implored the church to take a more active in nation building.

According to the president, the house of worship for Christians together with clergy has an obligation to help members of the society cope with the difficulties of life in Ghana and help build national cohesion and development.

“The church has a greater role to play in shaping the minds of the people and redirecting their efforts in transforming and building a nation that stands tall among other nations”, says President Akufo-Addo.
The president said this in a speech read on his behalf by Kofi Dzamesi, the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, at the opening of the 60th Session of the Ministerial and General Council Meeting of the Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI) in Accra.
The church in Ghana has in the past been criticised by some for being money grabbing and not caring for the poor and afflicted, a sentiment echoed by Pope Francis.
