We Voted for Change not Excuses

You can lie your way to power but reality will surely expose your underbelly. The NPP succeeded in hoodwinking unsuspecting Ghanaians with their assortment of hogwash supposed policies that will transform Ghana into a paradise.

Majority of Ghanaians reasoned with them and voted for them to deliver on their promises. The party is yet to assume the reigns of leadership of this country, so those of us on the other side would not hurriedly conclude that they cannot keep their numerous promises.

Thankfully, some of these promises have timelines. When Nana Akufo and his men audaciously made these ambitious promises, they knew what they were about.

Nobody held guns to their heads to make those lofty promises. They knew the state of the country and accordingly proposed policies to deal with our mountainous challenges when elected.

When Nana Akufo Addo assured nursing trainees of their allowances, DKM customers of their locked up investments, importers of reduction of import duty, contractors of all their arrears, Ghanaians of drastic reduction in utility tariffs, a stable power supply, resilient economy, one village one dam for folks up north, one district one factory, one district one million dollars annually, he knew what he was about.

When Nana Akufo Addo presented his true state of the nation address and gave all the assurances of how his government will among others things provide employment for the teeming youth, he knew the state of the country and where he will ‘find’ employment for these vulnerable youths.

Ghanaians have a social contract with the NPP administration. They are havr fulfilled their side of the bargain by voting for him. It is time for him to reciprocate this kind gesture.

Ghanaians have bequeathed the leadership mantle to the NPP to demonstrate its superior prowess it claims it has over the NDC. Ghanaians desire nothing but what was promised them for which reason they chose the NPP ahead of the other political parties.

Nobody will stampede Nana Akufo Addo into implementing his policies as he promised. That notwithstanding we will not buy into attempts to hide behind smokescreens of flimsy excuses to coverup for the NPP’s inability to deliver on its promises.

Already attempts are being made by media surrogates of the NPP and some leading members of the party to prepare grounds for the president elect and his aficionados to cite actions and inactions of officials of the outgoing administration as basis for the NPP’s inability to fulfil some of its promises.

Ghanaians will not acquiesce to this devious strategy. All opposition parties are deemed as government in waiting so when they make promises, they are considered as though the party is in government and ready to rollout its policies.

The NPP’s manifesto is a public document and all of us are aware of how officials of the incoming administration touted its manifesto as the magic wand that will lift this country from the supposed doldrums.

Presidents in the fourth Republic are elected for a four year renewable term. The NDC and President Mahama’s term will elapse on the midnight of January 6, 2017. Nana Akufo Addo will then have four years to prove his mettle. Ordinarily, his assessment and scrutiny should have started in his fourth year in office.

But he has made some promises that he vowed to fulfil in his first hundred days in office. We will offer him full support and collaboration to fulfil them but if he fails to meet his own target, we assure him of “brimstones”.
