Ledzokuku NDC MP, Mahama Supporters Attacked

Supporters of President John Dramani Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), are being attacked by fanatics of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) across the country, following the opposition party’s presidential and parliamentary victory, last week.

The unfortunate news, comes few hours after the Electoral Commission (EC) declared NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo, as the winner of last Wednesday’s general polls. The physical attacks, has left supporters of the NDC in a state of shock, anger and discomfort.

Videos of NPP members, smashing cars of NDC supporters, are also making the rounds on several social media platforms to the surprise of many.

Even before the swearing-in ceremony, a meeting of the two transition teams among others, seizures of state properties, including tollbooths, toilets and some other facilities across the country by irate NPP supporters.

Some NPP supporters, have also stormed the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to take over management of the newly built interchange. The irate supporters clad in NPP paraphernalia, locked up offices built to operate the interchange popularly known as ‘Accra Dubai’.

At Fiapre near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, NPP supporters, burnt down a tollbooth in an attempt to forcefully take from a supposed NDC operator. The arsonists took videos of themselves, while carrying out their criminal conducts.

Wofa K, one of the two gentlemen, who featured prominently in advertisements on television showcasing the many infrastructural projects by President Mahama, has been left with severe injuries to his head, ears, arms and ribs, following a physical attack on him.

The injured man, who earned the popular Ga phrase “No abaabase”, (backwards never) showcased pictures and videos of infrastructural projects embarked on by the Mahama administration ahead of the election. These included, the Adomi Bridge, the ultra modern Greater Accra Regional hospital; former Ridge Hospital, the Dodowa Hospital, among others.

Pictures of wounded “Wofa K” who is also an actor, were on Saturday afternoon shared on social media platforms, especially facebook and whatsapp. Many condemned the attack and some asking the police to take action to bring the perpetuators to book.

Wofa K, per the pictures The Herald, has sighted has been severely slashed and he is in serious pain.
When The Herald reached him through a call to his phone, he indicated to this paper, he could not speak, because he was in serious pain. With a lot of difficulty, he disclosed that he had taken some drugs to ease the pain.

“I have taken some drugs and am resting now, so call me later can’t talk now”, he told this paper.

Outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledzokuku in the Greater Accra Region, has also been attacked by a mob, according to information making the rounds in the Teshie community.

Mrs. Sena Okity-Duah, first time legislator, lost her seat in last week’s elections to a medical doctor, Dr. Okoe Boye, on the ticket of the NPP.

The Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, who the indigenes used tribal card against during the election campaign, had been accepted by many, especially the women until the emergence of the MP elect. She was born and raised in the Constituency, but that was not enough to make her one of them to retain her seat.

According to reports, Mrs. Okity-Duah’s husband, was verbally attacked last Thursday at their Teshie residence, after the declaration on that day and many properties, including her Hyundai Santafe, with registration number GW 3982-14, destroyed.

The perpetuator (the man who destroyed the vehicle) according to her aide, Nii Ayi Anteh, has been arrested and in the custody of the Teshie Police.
The Ledzokuku seat is one that has not been occupied by any MP for more than a term.

Wife of actor, Clement Bonney, popularly known as Mr. Beautiful, who has been part of the Mahama campaign, was also reportedly attacked.

There were also distressed calls for help on social media by NDC supporters, especially from Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region, the home region of Nana Akufo-Addo.

There are pictures of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and Youth Employment Agency (YEA) offices at Damongo in West Gonja district of the Northern Region, which has been braced by NPP supporters though unconfirmed.

The YEA office in Damango in Northern Region, has also been seized by the some NPP supporters, who claimed they received information, some items were being stolen from the there.

There are reports of similar incidents in other parts of the country, following the election of opposition leader, Nana Akufo-Addo, as president-elect in the December 7 elections.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service, says it has come to their notice that some members of the governing party, are being attacked by NPP supporters.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Police, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, the Police said, ‘’ the Police Administration, wishes to caution those who are engaging in acts of vandalism and rowdism to desist, as Police officers, who have been deployed to maintain law and order will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute those who break the laws of the land.’’

NEWS RELEASE: ATTACKS ON NDC SUPPORTERS.
It has come to the attention of the Police that some people are attacking supporters of NDC in various parts of the country. Furthermore, there are reports of excessive jubilation by NPP supporters across the country.

Consequently, the Police are calling on the general public, especially, supporters of the NPP to desist from engaging in any acts that will violate the rights of other people and also breach the peace prevailing in the country after the polls.

The Police are further, entreating party supporters in jubilant mood to go about their celebration in moderation.

The Police Administration wishes to caution those who are engaging in acts of vandalism and rowdism to desist, as Police officers who have been deployed to maintain law and order will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute those who break the laws of the land.
