John Mahama stands tall among NDC presidential aspirants

The four year of Mr John Mahama as President of the Republic is long enough period for anyone to get a sense of hisw leadership style. It is clear that John Mahama is completely different from his peers with exceptional leadership qualities.

John Mahama is eminently qualified to challenge Akufo Addo in 2020. The NDC and Ghana need a bridge builder who does not have controversial character. Ghana needs a unifier to bring Ghanaians together.

There is consensus that Nana Akufo Addo and his administration have failed abysmally but the critical issue remains which of the aspirants can beat Akufo Addo in 2020 given his diabolic moves and influence over the current EC directors.

He is accorded recognition as the “Sofo” of modern governance in Ghana given his type of politics which is devoid of rancour, lies peddling, acrimony. He is always focused on the good, development and advancement of Ghanaians and the NDC. His political prowess is visible in how he held the country together for four years, how he tackled Ghana’s infrastructure problem and how he pragmatically implemented diversification of the economy.

Former President Mahama’s acceptability across length and breath of Ghana, across the constituencies and across the geographical zones and ethnic groups is seen in his consultations with branch and constituency executives of his party and his consultations with prominent personalities and visits to several regions where executives and the masses have trooped out to welcome him. Despite the barrage of attacks on his personality and legacies by his opponents, his party’s supporters, executives and senior members are aware of his contribution to the party’s development, transformation of Ghana and advancing democracy and progress of Ghana. If election is conducted today with John Mahama leading the NDC, i am sure of he, clinching all the Regions.

Self effacing, soft spoken and with an amiable mien, John Mahama hardly cuts the picture of a political firebrand. But like a bolt from the fog of obscurity he has dared to seize the political limelight with ease and nimbleness of a stage magician and has succeeded in bringing under his spell the hearts and minds of the party folks and many Ghanaians who are only too glad to identify themselves with his achievements, record in office, and development centred campaign strategy. Particularly worthy of note about the former President, is the general belief that on the question of empowering his party folks, he probably stands head and shoulder above the other aspirants.

His unique selling proposition is that he can find the common ground to keep his party folks and leadership together and presenting a positive message that is growing party support beyond its base. Ghanaians are yearning for his return. This came to light during his visit to the Central Region. Drivers, teachers, nurses and other professional organizations presented special messages to the former President via the branch and constituency executives in their constituencies. Market women, Taxi drivers, trotro drivers etc mobbed him and barricaded his vehicle with their “comeback to be me song”.

If the NDC folks really want to see power in 2020, then they must settle on John Mahama. None of the aspirants has the political base and wherewithal to displace Nana Addo in 2020. All the aspirants are good materials, have what it takes to lead nation Ghana. But the current dynamics do not support their agenda. In recent times the NDC has had its political fortunes enhanced by expression of disappointment in Akufo Addo by many die-hard supporters of the Npp, Ghanaians chastisement of the Akufo Addo government, condemnation by civil society organizations etc. The Party has an aspirant who possess the leadership acumen to unseat Akufo Addo in the person of John Mahama.
POST 2016 EVENTS AND MAHAMA’S 2020

In the past nineteen months, Akufo Addo’s popularity has fallen drastically among farmers, drivers, spare parts, dealers, miners, teachers, nurses, Guta members, freight forwarders etc according to survey published by some rating agencies. Post 2016 events have made the former President more popular than before. Ghanaians have started comparing the Mahama administration to the current administration making things difficult for President Akufo Addo and his administration. Ghanaians have started craving for the return of the Mahama administration because of Akufo Addo’s incompetence and abysmal performance. Wherever he went (constituencies) the executives said same thing- that the 2016 NDC defeat was orchestrated by God. John Mahama is the link between the old comrades and the new generation of party folks. He best captures the aspirations of millennials and is an embodiment of modern governance. Ghanaians are disillusioned with the current administration but what is missing is the linkage who will harness and galvanize the dreams of many most Ghanaians to actualize the Mecca Ghanaians envision. He is youth eccentric, one of his major trademarks.
