John Mahama Beats Appointees With over 90% votes -Poll

A simple opinion poll conducted among the delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed that former President John Dramani Mahama is going to win the presidential primary with more than 90% of the votes.

The poll which was conducted in seven out of the ten regions, indicates that majority of the delegates have made up their minds to vote for Mr John Mahama.

In the Tema constituencies – Ashaiman, Tema East, Tema West, Tema Central – for example, as many as 128 out of the 146 delegates interviewed said they would vote for Mahama. Seven of the delegates opted for Mr Alban Bagbin, six promised to give their votes to Spio Garbrah, with Prof Joshua Alabi garnering five.

A similar trend was recorded in the Ningo Prampram and Ada constituencies, Ablekuam West and Ledzokuku, where majority of the delegates opted for Mr Mahama. In the Ashanti Region, about ninety-eight percent of delegates who were approached in constituencies such as Ahafo Ano South-East, Amensie Central, Offinso South, Subin, Adansi Akrofroum, Tafo-Pankrono , Nhyiaeso, Manhyia North, Adansi South, Obuasi West, Obuasi East, Bantama, Oforikrom, Afigya Sekyere East (Agona) and Offinso North constituencies said they would vote for Mr Mahama.

In Obuasi East and West constituencies in particular, ninety four percent of the 50 delegates interviewed in the survey wanted ex-President Mahama to lead the party to the next presidential poll.

Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah polled two votes (4%) to trail John Dramani Mahama who had 47, while Prof. Joshua Alabi got one (2%).

In Volta Region, Mahama is again enjoying overwhelming support in the North, South and Central Tongu constituencies, Adaklu, Ketu-South and North, Akatsi-South and Akatsi North, Ho Central, Ho West, Kpando, Krachi-East, Nkwanta South, Akan, Biakoye, Buem, South Dayi, and Hohoe constituencies.

In the North Tongu Constituency, 17 of the delegates promised to vote for Mahama, with 20 out of 23 from South Tongu giving their votes to Mahama. 22 delegates out of 24 in Central Tongu followed the same trend – will vote for Mahama.

In the Ketu North Constituency, 19 out of the 23 delegates pledged to vote for Mr. Mahama,

Also 19 out of 23 delegates in Akatsi South promised to vote for Mahama
The Ho Central Constituency has 23 delegates, and 20 of them pledged to vote for Mr. Mahama.
In the Kpando Constituency, 20 out of the 23 delegates, again, settled on Mahama

The Krachi-East Constituency has 20 out of the 23 delegates saying they would vote for Mr. Mahama.
In Nkwanta South, out of the 23 executives, 19 said they would vote for Mr. Mahama,.

Former President Mahama, again, has 21 delegates out of the 23 pledging to vote for him in the Akan Constituency,.

In the Biakoye Constituency, 19 out 23 of the executives said they would vote for Mahama.

According to the delegates, they have no option than to settle on the former president because he demonstrated sound leadership qualities, coupled with his development programmes and policies.

In the Upper East Region, about ninety-eight percent of delegates who were approached in constituencies such as Wa Central, Wa East, Wa West, Nadowli-Kaleo, Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, Jirapa, Lawra, Nandom, Lambussie, Sissala West and Sissala East have given former president John Dramani Mahama overwhelming endorsement.

They argued that the former head of state is the most marketable and popular figure among the lot who are gunning for the ticket to lead the umbrella movement. Some delegates even told us that they would not vote for a candidate who does not support Mahama’s bid.

Over one hundred and six-five delegates, with a minimum of fifteen delegates from each constituency, and argued that Ghanaians are comparing the administration of John Mahama and Akufo-Addo, hence, the former president must lead the party again.

In the Eastern Region, former President Mahama is, again, the overwhelming choice.
