Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama Transition Team, says so far 10 heads of states have confirmed their participation in President-elect Mahama’s swearing in on Tuesday, January 07.
He added that there would also be in attendance two vice presidents, one speaker of parliament, two former presidents, and a host of heads of international organisations, including the Commonwealth and AfDB,.
Mr Ofosu disclosed this during a press briefing in Accra when he outlined preparations and activities towards the President-elect’s inauguration.
The Presidential Inauguration would be on Tuesday, January 07, 2025, at the Black Star Square.
He said preparations of the grounds for the ceremony were ongoing, adding that they expected a beautifully curated venue for the inauguration.
Mr Ofosu said the ceremony was also a parliamentary session, which meant that Parliament would be relocating its sitting to the Square for the purpose of the swearing-in.
He stressed that the enclave for the Parliamentary sitting would be totally condoned, where access to the condoned area would be strictly by invitation.
“Members of the public and all invited guests are reminded that they cannot and will not be allowed to enter the swearing-in area without presenting their invitation cards,” he added.
Mr Ofosu said guests were to be seated by 0830 hours, followed by Members of Parliament and invited guests.
He added that the Speaker would arrive and escort the President-Elect and Vice President-
Elect to the Chamber, where proceedings would commence at 1100 hours.
Mr Ofosu said some roads within Accra, including the 28th February Road from CEPS Headquarters to Castle Road Junction, Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, and the Starlet 91 Road would be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic and would be re-opened after the event.
Also, traffic from the 28th February road, emanating from La, Labone, and Osu toward the Central Business District would be diverted to the Salem Avenue Traffic light at the Castle Traffic Light to link up with Oxford Street, as well as traffic from John Evans Atta Mills High Street towards Black Star Square.
“The following areas have been earmarked for car parking for the Ceremony: the back of the Independence Arch, Forecourt of the State House, Access Bank Car Park, Osu Cemetery Car Park, Ministries Areas, Ministry of Food and Agriculture Car Park, Marine Drive Football Park, and Efua Sutherland Car Park,”
“No vehicle would be allowed to park at unauthorised places or allowed to drive through any of the road blocks,” he added.
