‘Daily Guide’ Doing Yellow Journalism

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has poured scorn on what it dismisses as yellow journalism by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s main media mouthpiece, Daily Guide.

A poster boy for the NPP’s propaganda, the paper recently published articles that it claimed had been informed by information gleaned from leaked parts of the Botchwey Committee report that the NDC is keeping under key and lock.
According to the reports, the committee had submitted that one of the reasons the NDC lost the 2016 elections was that President Mahama had lived like a movie star.

“The attention of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been drawn to yet another series of false publications by the Daily Guide newspaper and which are being circulated as excerpts from the Professor Kwesi Botchwey Committee report.
“The said reports, published on Tuesday September 19 and Wednesday September 20, 2017 by the Daily Guide, are false and are not contained anywhere in the report of the Professor Kwesi Botchwey Committee,” Kofi Adams, National Organizer of the NDC, wrote in counter.
According to Mr. Adams, the stories were baseless and deserved to be treated with the contempt that they deserve.
He pointed out that the concocted stories, which in journalism circles are derogatorily called ‘chamber-pot’ stories, were generated by the Daily Guide in a re-enactment of a trademark rascality to divert attention from scandals that the NPP government faces.
“We have observed, rather sadly, that such deliberate publications about the NDC and especially the former President only come up when the Nana Akufo-Addo government has its back to the wall due to scandals or public agitation, this time arising from increasing fuel prices, increasing cost of clearing from the ports, negative fall outs from a poor implementation of the free SHS programme, public rejection of the attempt to  rewrite the country’s history among others.
“These are obviously more important issues the Daily Guide should be writing on instead of concocting stories about the NDC and its officials and publishing same,” Kofi Adams noted.
A vanguard of the ruling NPP’s propaganda, Daily Guide has long been in the forefront of what some NDC MPs have come to describe as a choreography of lies.
In 2012, following the death of President Mills, Daily Guide had published that the NDC government had dug nine graves for President Mills at the Flagstaff House.
President Mills has since been buried in a single ossuary at the Asomdwe Park.
