In a significant move aimed at advancing Ghana’s enterprise development agenda, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Prof. Nathaniel Boso as the new Board Chairman of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA).
A highly distinguished academic and international business expert, Prof. Boso brings to the role an extensive track record in entrepreneurship, marketing, and innovation strategy. He currently serves as the O. R. Tambo Africa Research Chair in Entrepreneurship and Employability at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he has also been Dean of the School of Business since 2017. He is the Director of the USAID-funded Centre for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chain–Africa (CARISCA), a $15 million centre of excellence headquartered at KNUST.
Prof. Boso’s academic influence stretches across the continent and beyond. He is an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science in South Africa and a visiting professor at Strathmore University Business School in Kenya. His scholarly work, which explores international entrepreneurship and industrial marketing, has garnered global recognition, including the 2021 AIB Insight’s Outstanding Article Award and the 2019 S. Tamer Cavusgil Award from the American Marketing Association.
With over a decade of leadership in research and academia, Prof. Boso’s appointment is expected to bring strategic vision and innovation to the GEA as it strengthens support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Ghana.
The Ghana Enterprises Agency, formerly known as the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), plays a pivotal role in promoting and developing entrepreneurship, particularly among youth and women. Prof. Boso’s leadership is anticipated to bolster the Agency’s efforts in enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of Ghanaian businesses.
Prof. Boso holds a PhD in International Entrepreneurship and Marketing from Loughborough University in the UK, a Master’s degree from Umea University in Sweden, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Ghana.
His appointment signals renewed focus on academic-industry collaboration, evidence-based policy, and enterprise innovation as Ghana charts its course toward economic transformation.
