John Mahama’s Victory Marks the End of Impunity and Arrogance of Power—Haruna Iddrisu

Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has prayed that the president-elect John Dramani Mahama does not disappoint Ghanaians following the overwhelming endorsement Ghanaians gave to him in the just-ended 2024 general elections.

He assured that the emergence of Mr Mahama will put an end to impunity and arrogance of power.

“We owe Ghanaians a depth of gratitude for standing strong and firm behind His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and having faith and confidence in his return to the presidency. It is my trust and prayer that he will not disappoint Ghanaians.

“At least he will avoid the arrogance of the NPP so be sure that President Mahama will run a government with ministers who will be humble, who will uphold humility as a hallmark as a requirement of a president. President Mahama will also avoid the abuse of office with impunity. The emergence of John Mahama marks an end to impunity.”

Similarly, the outgoing Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson assured that the incoming Mahama administration will not engage in greed, impunity, and disrespect for the rule of law.

He says they will provide a leadership that listens to the concerns of the people.

In a post on his X page, he stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has transformed the NPP into a micro minority.

“Together, we’ve achieved the incredible—transforming the NPP into a micro minority by claiming over 50 seats. But this victory isn’t ours alone; it’s a powerful statement from the true masters of our democracy—the resilient people of Ghana,” he said.

He added “We hear you, and we will not betray your trust. Unlike the NPP, we will uphold governance rooted in integrity, probity, and accountability.

“No to greed, impunity, and disrespect for the rule of law—yes to leadership that listens and delivers for the people! Let’s keep building a brighter Ghana, together.”

Meanwhile, the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama has said that Ghanaians will measure the National Democratic Congress with the same yardstick that they used to measure the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

To that end, he has cautioned the NDC supporters against overly rejoicing about the defeat of the NPP.

Speaking in a meeting with the Ghana Pentecostal & Charismatic Council, he said “We should not be too happy about the defeat of the NPP because Ghanaians are measuring with the same yardstick. Ghanaians have always held the NDC to a higher standard because we are a social democracy and they are a property-owning democracy.”

Regarding the expectation of Ghanaians from Mr Mahama, Ningo-Prampram lawmaker Samuel Nartey George, who has been re-elected in the 2024 general elections, stated that there are significant expectations on the shoulders of President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

He emphasised that only divine guidance can enable Mr Mahama to steer the nation successfully.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, December 14, about the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) victory in the 2024 polls, he said:

“It humbles me to know that the people, who have taught Akufo-Addo a lesson in humility, will in four years return to the polls. President Mahama, along with all his appointees and those of us in government, must understand that we hold power in trust for the Ghanaian people. Ultimate power belongs to the people of Ghana.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. The expectations Ghanaians have placed on us are immense. I was speaking with a few senior clergymen we worked with during the lead-up to this election, and they noted the need to counsel and pray even more for [John Mahama] because of the weight of the expectations on his shoulders. Only God can guide him to lead this country right, given the colossal mess and the gargantuan damage we are inheriting.”
