Volta Caucus in Parliament nominates Klutse Avedzi as Minority Leader

The Volta Regional Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana’s Parliament has chosen the Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament under the 6th Parliament, James Klutse Avedzi to serve as the Minority Leader of the 7th Parliament of the Fourth Republic which yet to be sworn-in come January 7 2017.

The Volta Regional Caucus is poised that James Klutse Avedzi who is as the Member of Parliament for Ketu North will be endorse by the NDC government. The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NDC will be meeting early this week to conclude on the list as all regions present nominees for consideration.

Speaking on Joy FM, Member of Parliament for Keta, Richard Quashigah said he expects that whoever will get the nod as Minority Leader would be a decision based on consensus.

“If we get some committed, meticulous individual that we all agree on to be the Minority Leader and he gets support from the Deputy Minority Leader as well as the whips and the rank and file of members especially back-benchers we can really make the needed impact that our people out there who have elected us are expecting us to make on the floor of the House. As a regional block 25 of us have made a presentation that we think that Hon. James Klutse Avedzi will be best suited as Minority Leader of Parliament, that is the position of the Volta Region. Whatever choices that are made at all the regional levels must be brought together before the elected members for discussion.”

Under the outgoing NDC government, the NDC had 148 members in parliament as compared to NPP’s 123, However in the just ended December 7 2016, the NDC lost over 50 seats and had 103 seats whereas the minority under the 6th Parliament will won 170 seats and will therefore form Majority in Parliament under the 7th Parliament come January 6 2017
