Sulley Muntari banned for walking off over racist abuse

Disciplinary Committee of the Serie A has slapped Ghana midfielder Muntari with a match ban following his decision to walk off the field in protest when he suffered racial abuse against Cagliari on Sunday.

The former Portsmouth midfielder and Ghana international, who also played for both Milan clubs, complained to the referee about the abuse but was booked for dissent.
Muntari left the field in protest leaving relegated Pescara to play out the final few minutes of the 1-0 loss with 10 men.

Sulley Muntari whose action has been backed by international bodies like UNO has however been suspended for a game.

The Disciplinary Commission arrived at their decision after the officials at the ground wrote in their report that the racist chants were coming from only around 10 people – less than one percent of the 2,000 people in the stadium.

They also noted it was only audible because the rest of the supporters were staging a ‘silent protest’ and therefore the decision was made not to penalise Cagliari, who escaped without even a warning or fine.
