Mahama expresses surprise at Akufo-Addo’s absence at presidential debate

Giving his introductory marks, the president said as the first sitting president to participate in a presidential debate in 2012, he was happy to be at his second straight presidential debate.

He said he was surprised that Akufo-Addo was not present because, according to him, it was normally opposition candidates who were eager to participate in presidential debates.

President Mahama, however, proceeded to defend his record in the last four years, stressing that the country had “made gross progress” and that there was “light at the end of the tunnel”.

He said it was important to stay on what he called the current path of progress instead of going back to “Egypt”.
