NPP likely to abandon IMF programme

Economists are downplaying concerns that the newly elected government might cancel the IMF programme.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), especially its vice presidential candidate, Dr. Bawumia has consistently criticized government for going into the IMF programme.

This has fuelled the perception that, the newly elected government may modify or even cancel the programme when power is transferred.

But an Economist and Head of Finance at the University of Ghana, Dr. Lord Mensah, says it will be unnecessary to take such an action as the country is already enjoying the benefits.
