Minister of Health hints of paying trainee nurses allowances

Mr. Alex Segbefia, Minister of Health
The Minister of Health Alex Segbefia has hinted of paying trainee nurses allowances next week.

His comments come after President Mahama announced that a student’s loan scheme will be instituted for trainee nurses.

However, upon careful deliberations, it was realised that the loan scheme may not cover all nursing and midwifery students, hence the decision to provide allowances to trainee nurses.

The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia who made the point at the 10th Anniversary of the Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Keta, said this move is however, not political.

The first Lady Lordina Mahama who was the special guest at the ceremony, stated that challenges are peculiar to every school, and congratulated the school for its ability to surmount the challenges.

To address some of the challenges, the First Lady said government is re-tooling Nursing Training Colleges, hospitals and Health centres across the country to meet international standards.

The Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Keta over the weekend celebrated 10 years of contributing to quality health delivery, amidst daunting challenges such as the lack of teaching staff and accommodation for students and staff.
