Alan will fail if… – Ken Thompson

The Chief Executive Officer of Dalex Finance Ken Thompson has said that the Trade Minister-designate Alan Kyerematen will not flop at his positions if he repeats the mistakes he made with the Presidential Special Initiatives (PSIs) in the erstwhile Kufuor government.

Thompson said even though the PSI was a laudable initiative some wrong decisions taken by Kyerematen led to the failure of the programme.
“The initiatives failed because they were all led by the government and not the private sector. Which private sector man will go and put a ten million factory in Kasoa and allow it to be run down?”

Thompson said the business community in the country will fight against any attempt by the government to repeat such mistakes.
“So if Alan Kyerematen is going to come back to do what he did in the past, not only will we resist him fiercely, but they will all fail,” he added.
In January 2001, when President John Agyekum Kufuor was sworn in as the President of the Republic of Ghana, he declared the Golden Age of business, with the private sector as the engine of economic growth.

Since that declaration, a variety of programs were initiated in his government, to realize the President’s aspiration. The President’s Special Initiatives (PSI) program mainly aims at promoting special food crops on a national scale. The products for the program were selected in a way that every region and district in the country would benefit from the PSI.

This was seen to have failed since the government led the industrialisation instead of allowing the private sector to do so.

In the Nana Addo-led government, they will be expected to accomplish the ‘one-district, one-factory’ campaign promise they made.

Nana Addo has often mentioned that this will be done with the private sector being the engine of growth and development.

Thompson expressed his hope that Nana Akufo-Addo will fulfil his promise while Alan Kyerematen also helps accomplish them.
