2018 World Cup Qualifiers -Ghana miss out on Russia 2018

Ghana travelled to the Mandela National Stadium to face Uganda on an awfully bumpy pitch, with teams still holding hopes to qualify to Moscow.

Captain Daniel Amartey saved the Black Stars in the opening minutes by committing a foul after a disastrous foul from Ghana’s midfield, giving Uganda a free kick from a great position that ended up wide from the goalkeeper.

Ghana’s defence cleared Uganda’s biggest chance as Farouk Miya could have used Emmanuel Okwi’s deflected cross.

Only seconds later Thomas Partey had a clear-cut chance for Ghana but his shot ended up in the side net.

Daniel Amartey sent silence to the hearts of every fan at the stadium as his header bagged the net, only for the referee to rule the ball offside.

Just before the first half whistle Farouk Miya had another chance to give Uganda the lead but his right boot sent the ball wide.

The first chance of the second half came from a Patrick Twumasi free-kick that was lofted right above the cross bar, as the Astana midfielder was close to score Ghana’s goal.

Uganda striker Derrick Nsibambi missed the chance of the day as his header on the 64th minute was not enough to make it 1-0 for the home side.

A few minutes later, a clear Ghana penalty was waved away by the referee.

The game ended 0-0 giving the Pharaohs a chance to qualify this Sunday if they clinch the three points
