NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS, ASHANTI REGIONAL BRANCH.
WE WOULD NOT TOLERATE INTIMIDATION AND PHYSICAL ABUSE FROM NPP ELEMENTS WITHIN THE GHANA POLICE SERVICE.
The Ashanti regional branch of the National Democratic Congress expresses its utter disgust and disappointment at the bizarre and unethical conduct of some misguided elements within the Ghana Police Service in the Region.
On Saturday, April 30, 2016, some officers of the Ghana Police Service invaded the Asokore Mampong Old Palace registration center and physically abused our party’s agent without any provocation whatsoever.
Our agent in the course of delivery of his legally mandated duty of challenging suspected minors at the center was shocked when some elements of the opposition called certain officers of the police service to misreport happenings. Upon arrival, the officers without due diligence physically launched attacks with canes on the agent. Upon this information, the regional chairman, and constituency executives rushed to the center to verify events, to our revulsion, the officer Klemegah led team shot indiscriminately and further abused our leadership to the cheer and admiration of the NPP, onlookers and sympathizers who recorded this outlandish misconduct had their mobile phones seized and equally abused. http://ghanapoliticsonline.com
Our agent and members who have been physically abused and critically injured are being treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, but we are by this release stating emphatically our resolve to ensure none of this happens again even if our security cannot be guaranteed by those whose duty it is to do so.
We are accordingly calling on the Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service to take urgent steps to purge itself of elements like ‘Klemegah’ to prevent such occurrences in the course of the limited registration exercise and beyond.
Consequently, we call on all party members who are enraged by this happening to trust leadership to handle the issue appropriately, but would advise ourselves accordingly if the posture of these miscreants within the police persist.
