We can easily break the 8 with a successful galamsey fight – Akufo-Addo to MMDCEs

President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has told Municipal Metropolitan and District Chief Executives MMDCEs that a concerted effort at ending the menace of illegal mining will make the New Patriotic Party ‘break the eight’.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has today October 5 been meeting with Chiefs and MMDCEs, especially in gold mining areas to deliberate on how the country can win the war against illegal mining.

Speaking at the Meeting, the President said “let us work together to get rid of this and I believe if the people of Ghana see a determined effort on our part which is yielding results, our water bodies are clear, our landscape is being reclaimed, our forests are being preserved, it will help them enable us do what, break the eight”.

The President’s insistence on breaking the eight has been a worry to Dr Kobby Mensah who believes that the President’s focus shouldn’t have been on electoral success but rather on protecting the environment.

Reacting to the position expressed by the President he said “So NPP will only fight Galamsay becos will make them win electionsEi! Where are the values – securing the future of generations unborn? Sustaining the earth resources? Protecting the livelihoods – human and animals etc. None of these important to president but elections”.
