VIDEO : 7 feared dead in gas explosion at Trade Fair

A gas station near the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre in Accra has exploded leaving five people feared burnt to death.

The fire, according to an eyewitness, is fast spreading towards the national exhibition and trade centre.

According to Veronica Koomson, an eyewitness, there is an ambulance and fire tenders at the scene to fight the intense blaze which has sent people running helter-skelter.

“The fire is blazing and we are doing everything possible to quench it. The Armed Forces fire fighters are here too and doing everything possible to ensure this fire is actually extinguished,” the spokesperson of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Prince Billy-Anaglatey told Starr News’ Kemini Amanor on Thursday.

Koomson said another gas station which is situated near the burning one is likely to go up in flames if the firefighters do not put up measures to salvage the situation.

However, Billy-Anaglatey said he cannot confirm any casualty, adding “our concern now is to confine the fire” so it does not catch up with the other.

The cause of the explosion is not known.
