PREMIERING ON TV ONE IN 2016
International film and television star Van Vicker makes his American debut in LisaRaye McCoy’s “Skinned.” The critically acclaimed film was directed by LisaRaye McCoy and Avery Williams and has been an official selection of numerous film festivals. Nominated for awards at both the Pan African Film Festival, Bronzelens Film Festivals, and others, it’s no wonder TV One, the network dedicated to delivering real life and entertainment programming from the African American point of view, has decided to acquire and air this historical film on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
From the onset of this project, Van was very excited and on board. “Once I received the script and became engaged related to the subject matter that is a worldwide problem related to people of color, I felt compelled and appreciative to be a part of bringing to life a film about the epidemic of skin bleaching in both impoverished and wealthy nations,” said Vicker. This will be the first time a film of this magnitude with Africa’s own Van Vicker will be shown on national tv here in the US.
LisaRaye McCoy, actress, makes her directorial debut with the film “Skinned” which tells the story of Jolie, a young girl that is so uncomfortable in her own skin and the stigma of what society places on dark skinned persons that she uses skin lightening creams to alter her complexion. The harmful substances in the skin bleaching products have an adverse effect on her skin and mental well-being. This film pulls back the layers of a story as it relates to color, self-esteem, acceptance, and being secure with what you look like.
Skinned was shot in Atlanta by Studio 11 Films, Divine Entertainment Intl., and Lot10 Productions in collaboration with Sky+Orange Productions. The film was executive produced by Dr. Kulah, Lotten Yeaney, and Sharon Tomlinson.
