A prominent youth group based in the Northern Region of Ghana and identified as Dagbon Youth Association has questioned how the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party , Nana Akufo-Addo intends to unite the two prominently feuding “Abudu” and “Andani” factions in Yendi , when in actual and in reality, Akufo-Addo has been cited in several reports as the man who orchestrated the illegal sacking of their northern brother, National Chairman of NPP Paul Afoko for having an “independent mind”, resourcing the grassroots and fighting corruption within the NPP.
Other reports has suggested that,Akufo-Addo is the major cause of the deep seated division in the party which has left the good old NPP, fractured beyond attraction in recent times. The Association has further described Akufo-Addo’s promise as empty and one borne out of mischief, mockery and an elevation of hypocrisy because, to them, Akufo-Addo who was an Attorney General and Justice Minister, played a lukewarm attitude against the conviction of murderers of the late Over Lord of Dagbon ,Yaana Yakubu Andani when they called on him at that time to speed up prosecution process.
The group leader, Alhaji Innusah Tijani Iddrisu in an interview with GhanaPoliticsonline.com reporter, explained that “Yaana Yakubu Andani was murdered as at the time Akufo-Addo was Minister of Justice and Attorney General , so we ask him what role did he play to ensure peace return in Dagbon as a cabinet minister? What didn’t he do to free the killers of our Paramount chief, didn’t Akufo-Addo snub us when we called on him as at that trying moment? Yaana was murdered in a cold blood by criminals and as an attorney General and Justice Minister at that moment, Akufo-Addo’s lackadaisical attitude towards the handling of that case was very abysmal and nothing good to write home about.
As an Attorney General, Akufo-Addo failed miserably in the prosecution of the Killers of Yaana. It took then opposition National Democratic Congress led by Former President Rawlings to promise we ,Dagbon people, of Justice and the finding of those criminals who killed Yaana Yakubu Andani. Till date we have been left to our fate.
NDC who promised us rather came to do a prosecution which leaves much to be desired as they freed the suspects in the long run; however, we are grateful to the NDC for bringing a semblance of peace in Dagbon through the commendable efforts of Otumfour Osei Tutu”
Alhaji Tijani further questioned Akufo-Addo, ” You cannot unite your party, yet you want us to believe your empty promise? It is obvious that, our blood brother who happens to be the National Chairman of the NPP party ,Paul Afoko , was sacked from the party last year by Akufo-Addo for having an independent mind and his determined efforts in resourcing the party’s grassroot and in fighting corruption within that party.
Why should Akufo-Addo be offended over mere disagreement on issues with our brother Paul Afoko who happens to be the head of the party? Didn’t Akufo-Addo and his gangs torment our brother Paul Afoko since from the day he picked nominations form to contest the position as Chairman in the NPP till this time ? Akufo-Addo is intolerant , look at how he accosted the journalist of Neat Fm Adakabre Frimpong-Manso for criticising him, is that a show of tolerance and leadership? Must Akufo-Addo fight any person who disagrees with him?”
“Look at how Akufo-Addo has groomed and inspired some group of Thugs (Invisible Forces) to be fomenting troubles and attacking anyone who disagreed with Akufo-Addo? What did Akufo-Addo say when that group of thugs attacked the General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and broke the screens of his car ? When Another member of the Alan faction who is a member of parliament, Honorable Collins Amankwa was slapped by Akufo-Addo’s strong ally, Chairman Wontumi, didn’t Akufo-Addo hail Chairman Wontumi at a fund raising event in London for slapping the young MP? All these vindicates our position that, Akufo-Addo is unforgiving,irresponsible, vindictive and divisive.
He should solve the problems in his party first, before crossing over to our region to make empty promises over something he is guilty off. If Akufo-Addo want us to be convinced and to accept his cheap promises, let Akufo-Addo apologise to our brother Chairman Paul Afoko for sacking him wrongly from our party because that NPP belongs to we Northerners through Northern Peoples Party. Let Akufo-Addo begin to show responsibility and tolerate divergent opinions. If Akufo-Addo can’t accommodate independent minded individuals like our brother Chairman Paul Afoko, how does he want us to entrust Ghana, which has a multi political party system, different Ethnic groups, different tribes, different colors, into his hands?” Alhaji Tijani querried.
Nana Akufo-Addo was in Yendi yesterday, where he promised to be a father for all. However, certain groups in Ghana has questioned how Akufo-Addo can keep that promise considering his inherent divisive traits which he has infested the NPP with, leaving the party fractured and the party’s Asylum down headquarters, a security flash point due to his flirtation with violence acts and words.
