Two EC officials sacked for sending voters register to Bawumia’s house

Two officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) have been sacked following claims that they sent a voters’ register and the verification machine to Dr Bawumia’s house.

The officials, Jobey Ambrose and Mumuni Latiffa who work at the EC’s Walewale District office allegedly took the sum of GHC10,000 to breach the electoral laws of the country.

Narrating the issue to Joy news’ Francis Abban, District EC Director, Benjamin Bamubio, says the Commission got wind of the incident following a tip-off.

He says the duo when interrogated said someone called them that there were some people who were on their way to check their particulars.

After having waited for sometime, nobody showed up. They were later told the person is inside a particular house. The duo took the register and verification machine and left for the house.

They said when they got to the house, they were asked to verify the Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This, he said happened around 5:30p.m. on Thursday.

“This is something that was against the Electoral Commission so when I instructed the supervisors to immediately drop the two and replace them with new officers to continue the work for the Electoral Commission,” he said. The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the EC to visit other form of punishment on the two rather than a mere sack.

Walewale Constituency Communications Officer, Imoro Abdul Razak, says information reaching them indicates this has been the plan of the opposition NPP in the District.
