Turkey Power Barges Coming November – GRiDCO

Ghanaians’ wish to bid farewell to the power crisis have been dashed as the first of two power barges expected to arrive in Ghana this month will rather come late November.

According to GRiDCO, the Karpower ship from Turkey is already heading to Ghana, but will delay.

This is the third time the arrival date has been shifted after they were first expected to berth at the shores of Ghana last April before being moved to September and then October.

The Principal Engineer in Charge of System Operations Department of GRiDCO, Kofi Owiredu, who disclosed the new arrival date, assured the power lines will be ready by the time the emergency power plants reach Ghana.

Speaking at a Public Utility Regulatory Commission’s First Stakeholder Meeting on major Tariff Review process at Ada over the weekend, Owiredu hinted the barges will be hooked to the national grid by December.

The power ships will help ease the erratic electricity supply in the oil-producing country. The barges will add about 450 megawatts to the national grid.
