Turkey earthquake: We pray Atsu is found safe and sound – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commiserated with the people of Turkey following the earthquake that occurred in the country.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Governments and peoples of Turkey and Syria on the devastation and the tragic loss of lives occasioned by Monday’s earthquake. May their souls rest in perfect peace,” President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said in a Facebook post.

President Akufo-Addo also prayed for the victims of the disaster including Ghanaian midfielder Christian Atsu who is reported to be trapped under the rubble following the earthquake.

He said: “Our hearts and prayers go out to the survivors, and we pray that our fellow Ghanaian, Christian Atsu, is found safe and sound.”

Media reports from Turkey have named the Ghanaian midfielder as one of the persons trapped under the rubble following the earthquake that occurred in the country, Monday, 6 February 2023.

The midfielder who plays for Turkish Super Lig club Hatayspor, is repoted to be among thousands of people left under the rubble after two players of the club were pulled out after the disaster.

The Ghanaian midfielder and the club director Taner Savut are yet to be found.

Multiple reports from Turkey say a search and rescue operation is underway for Atsu.
