At this point, I think it will be waste of time to re-echoe the details and background of the whole MENZGOLD-SEC bedlam. We all, by now, have a fair idea on what the issues are.
Menzgold customers have been described by a good number of people as GREEDY, and I wonder why they use that word/adjective.
I ask myself, “Is it that they don’t understand the word or they are repeating it simply because others are doing same?”
What is greed/greedy? In simple terms, I cite: you have a car, I have a car too or same car you have, yet, I show an intense and selfish desire to have yours too. That is greed.
So if a gold collectible trading company tells me I can earn or it can give me 10%/month an investment I have with them, where is my greed or greedy nature? There’s none! Absolutely no greed here!
Those who invested in Menzgold did not do so out of greed. They are just like any human, whom acquisitive as we are, wish to get more returns on any money we invest in anything.
Did Menzgold promise the customers 5% and the latter insisted on getting 10% or more? No. Factually no. So where is the greed?
If a person invest in a very high interest yielding investment, that person is termed a RISK TAKER, not greedy. Yes. Life is full of risk.
What is reasonable risk to you, could be a no-go area for another. I see driving as a risk to my life — so I’ve vowed to never drive.
Aside the relatively higher rate of returns bait, those who invested hugely with no or less dubiety, did so based on confidence and trust from open, implied and subtle endorsement from reputable, credible, and famous persons in Ghana.
This is a company, whose CEO met the president of Ghana, met a former president of Ghana and was received with warm arms; met and celebrated with the most revered and opulent monarch in West Africa, The Asantehene..
Met the National Chief Imam, and could cough $10 million as sponsorship money into Ghana’s Football Association GFA, gave employment to thousands, among numerous social responsibility gestures.
Once a certain pastor randomly approached me via Facebook and wanted me to do something for him. He didn’t know me from anywhere — neither did I.
To assure himself of whom he is about to deal with, he claims he went through my wall, observed some esteemed personalities I’ve had encounter with, and concluded,
“These are credible and popular role models in Ghana who will not associate themselves with anything or person who will soil their reputation or brand, so if this guy have some ties of a sort with them, then he is credible or harmless.”
This is the case of clients of Menzgold. They only exercised what we call HONEST BELIEF in something.
They were not and are still not greedy. Another word/adjective may do for me, but certainly not greed/greedy.
If I believe in someone or something based on trust I have in you, or endorsement from you, and you betray, the person, or the thing betrays me, you don’t term me dumb.
You fairly have to sincerely admit: “I betrayed you.” That is a fairer remark.
For the other perspectives on this issue, I’m still putting my thoughts together. I may take a bite when I settle. Until then…. Motwum!!
