The Osu police in the Greater Accra Region has arrested 3 armed robbers with the help of a taxi driver and the residents of the area.
The arrest was effected on Thursday (March 1, 2018) evening.
The armed robbers reportedly snatched the bag of a foreigner containing an unspecified amount of money.
The residents who witnessed the incident raised an alarm; a taxi driver heard it and chased the suspects who were escaping on a motorbike.
He rammed his vehicle into the motorbike which confused the suspects for a short while. They took to their heel and residents took them on in a hot chase.
One of the suspects carried a cutlass but was cut down by the angry residents who arrested him and handed him over to the police.
Two others were later apprehended.
The recorded cases of armed robbery in the country especially in Greater Accra has been increasing since 2018 started. In most places, the robbers have bolted with money and other items while injuring their victims.
On Tuesday (February 27, 2018) a gang of 4 made away with an undisclosed amount of cash in a daylight operation at the North Industrial Area.
Only 24 hours later, a Lebanese cashier was shot dead in his car as an armed gang trailed him after he had withdrawn 200,000 cedis to pay salaries.
Later in the evening, a mother was stabbed at Obuasi in the Ashanti region.
This has caused the general public to wonder if the police are on top of issues.
Meanwhile, the top hierarchy crimes have put the police under pressure to demonstrate to the public they are up to the task.
